Here is another great link parents for students to work on their numbers and how numbers can be represented multiple ways. I may suggest trying to do one number a week and have your child take pictures and draw where they see the number. This will teach them that that number can be represented in multiple contexts.

Math Specific Expectations Covered...

NS1.7 demonstrate an understanding of number relationships for numbers from 0 to 10, through investigation
NS1.9 use, read, and represent whole numbers to 10 in a variety of meaningful contexts

Hi Parents!

I thought everyone may want a helpful resource that you could use at home with your child. This resource is good for your child as it will help them practice making and recognizing letters. All you need is a toy car and a print out of the letter you want your child to work on and you are on your way.

The curriculum states that by the end of kindergarten students under the language specific expectation  states that they need to (2.8) demonstrate knowledge of most letters of the alphabet in different concepts.

Hi Parents!!

I hope everyone is having a great week! I thought I would just share with everyone some useful tools for everyone that you can use at home with your child.

Link #1: http://www.welland.library.on.ca/kids-space/tumblebooks/
This link is great for you and your child to pick your favourite book and find a new book and have it read to you electronically. This is great as your child will be amazed on how the book comes alive as well as it has the words are highlighted as the book is read.

Link #2: http://bit.ly/11Kcb6n
This link you can use with the your child and have a family game night with the bingo card. It has all the letters that we will be learning this month and it will be a fun way for your child to learn and review the letters.

This last link  is a just a song we use with the kids when they need a break from centers or before they go out for recess. They seem to enjoy doing the cha cha slide so maybe you want to do it with your child at home. Let me know how it goes!!

Have a good night!!!
I know some parents may be interested in what the new kindergarten program may be all about. That is why I want to share with everyone the ELKP curriculum document as it outlines everything that Miss. Burns and I will be covering and by the end of the two years you will see your child progress to grasp each of the 'Big Ideas' listed in the document. Please let me know if you have any further questions as I would be pleased to answer them.

Welcome!!

Welcome Kindergartens (returning and new) and parents! Miss. Burns and I are very excited for this upcoming school year and all the new things that the kids are going to learn. I am sure that some of you may be nervous about sending your child to school for the first team and wondering if they are going to be able a full day in class. But have no worries they are going to have a BLAST!!! Miss. Burns and I have been teaching the full day learning program for the past three years and we have really come to love it. The students seem to be very engaged and active in their learning as it is all play-based, inquiry and child directed learning. This means they learn what they want to learn and at a pace that works best for them. We find that some areas of the curriculum your child may excel at and some areas your child may take a little longer to learn the concept but it is all ok! Miss. Burns and I just want to see your child progress through the two years they are with us and build positive relationships with their peers as this is the foundation for their future education. Lastly, I will be using this blog to keep parents updated on various things that we are doing in class through pictures and posts. I also, will be posting useful resources that parents can use at home with their child as it will foster their learning.

I hope to meet everyone soon and have a good night!!
